What “cost per watt” means
Divide the total installed price by the system size in watts:
Cost per watt = Total price ($) ÷ System size (watts)
A 8 kW (8,000 W) system quoted at $24,000 is $3.00 per watt. This lets you compare a 6 kW quote against a 10 kW quote fairly.
What’s a fair price per watt in 2026?
